The structure covers an area of about one thousand square meters within the Sassi of Matera, where three Neolithic houses, five Enotrian houses, and eight Magna Graecia houses have been reconstructed. Alongside areas dedicated to community life, there is a reconstruction of a Water Sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Demeter. Furnishings and artifacts have been reproduced as faithfully as possible using techniques of experimental archaeology. Bathrooms, plumbing and climate-control systems, mattresses, and all devices required by health and safety regulations are not part of the historical set-up. The stay also includes, for those who wish, participation in a series of rituals accompanied by music and dance performances, including: the Ritual of Xenia (welcoming the guest), the Ritual of the Water Sanctuary, the Ritual of the Symposium, and the Ritual of the Morning Meal. During these rituals, guests are required to wear appropriate costumes. Lights, sounds, dances, scents, fabrics, foods, jewelry, cosmetics, and body-care products are all faithful reproductions of items that existed in Magna Graecia.
